The story so far: A rather peppy traveling accordion salesman almost has the
Yankovic family talked into making a decision that will change the course of
young Alfred Yankovic's life forever. Mary can't quite decide but then Nick
says:

"Let the boy choose," said Nick.

"Oh, Nick it's our place to guide our son. He'll never become a real
musician anyway, what with THAT lifestyle. I think he's going to be an
Architect. That's a respectable profession." Mary proclaimed proudly.

"I agree completely with you Mrs. Yankovic," Mr. B bubbled. "Music is meant
to enrich his life, not destroy it."

"Yes," Mary proclaimed decisively, " I think that the accordion would be a
lovely choice for him."

"Why that's wonderful, Mrs. Yankovic!" Mr. B chirped in his all too cheery
way. "I'm certain you've made the correct choice to bring out the Spirit of
Music in your son. Knew you'd make the right choice, did I."

Nick mustered a weak smile. Mr. B Natural was giving him a headache and it
was time for dinner. Lets close this deal and get er...him out of here, he
thought. And Mary knew what was going through his head.

The papers were signed, several dollars of the Yankovic's savings were
parted with, and appointments were set up for Alfred's lessons. Finally, Mr.
B had pranced out of the door in a flurry of sparkly cheer.

"What a peculiar fellow." said Nick from his place at the table. "Didn't you
think he was, you know, a little 'that way'". He raised his wrist, turned
his hand down and placed his other hand on his hip.

"Why, Nick, I don't know what you're talking about. And anyway, he won't be
his teacher."

Well she did know what he was talking about, but she just wanted to ignore
it. It didn't matter. A whole new world was about to open up for their young
son. A lifetime of music appreciation.

"Alfred?" She called upstairs. No answer.

Alfred stood and stared at what now seemed an empty corner of his neat room.
He had just had a very, very strange experience and was still catching his
balance. He noticed his hamster, Fluffy, was up and around, even though it
was only 6:27 PM. And Fluffy was a dedicated night person. The little
creature moved slowly, arranging his wood chips and food around his cage
like the professional organizer that he was. Alfred gradually began to
become aware of other bits of reality. His mother's voice helped him snap
back the rest of the way.

"Alfred Matthew Yankovic, come down here for dinner. We have a big surprise
for you! And, did you forget, it's meatloaf night -your favorite.!"

"Ye, Yes, mother..." he blurted at last, barely sure he could talk.

Though he regained his composure, he was not at all aware of the
circumstances set in play that day that would change his life forever.

--------
What was the strange experience that knocked young Alfred off his stride?
Was Mr. B Natural REALLY gone from their otherwise Mary Martin-less lives?
What woke up Fluffy? And doesn't Betsy know that his Hamster's name is
Harvey?.
These and other questions will be answered in the next installment of "Mr. B
Natur-AL".
